Kanary Enter Guard Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 9, 2026

What the extension does

Kanary Enter Guard is a Chrome extension that prevents web apps from treating Enter as a send action while IME composition is still active, and can optionally remap Enter to insert a newline and ⌘Enter / Ctrl+Enter to send on supported chat sites.

Data collected

  • No personal data is collected
  • No typing content is transmitted to any remote server
  • The extension stores only its settings: the selected guard mode (off, standard, or aggressive), the send-key preference, its site-class scopes, and whether the Kanary-for-Mac notice in the popup was dismissed, using Chrome storage

How data is stored

Settings are stored locally using Chrome's storage.sync API so the preferences can follow the signed-in browser profile.

Network access

The extension does not make network requests and does not require external accounts.

Reporting a problem

The popup and the notice shown when Enter is stopped include a "Report a problem" link. Choosing it opens a page on kanary.to in a new tab. The link carries the extension version, the current site's host name (only when it is a site Enter Guard supports; any other site is reported as "other"), and your Enter Guard settings. To fill in the host name, the popup uses the activeTab permission to read the current tab's address while the popup is open. Nothing is sent to Kanary unless you submit the form on that page, and no page content or typed text is ever included.

Data sharing

No user data is sold, transferred, or shared with third parties.
